27 New TRIPOLAR Ep available now!

Firstly, many apologies for the lack of information since the original announcement earlier this year. Due to various other commitment issues, we have only just managed to get things moving with ‘TRIPOLAR’.

We decided, in the end, to release the new album ‘TRIPOLAR’ as a series of three EPs on our own label, Pandephonium. EP 1 is being promoted to press and radio now, but we have taken the slightly unusual step to make it available to download at the same time. It can be purchased from all the usual outlets, including iTunes and Amazon. A full list of sellers can be found here. Please note that the ‘purchase’ buttons on the website do not work. You will have to visit the seller’s site directly.

Many thanks to Etienne Gilfillan for the marvelous artwork.

EP 1 contains the tracks: The Man With No Name (Radio Edit),  The Man With No Name (Full length version), Zero Vision, Thorns & Roses and Pennies & Change.

‘The Man With No Name’ is a sonically more refined mix of the version we have been previewing on the website. ‘Thorns & Roses’ is a recent mix of the original slow version of the track. ‘Zero Vision’ and ‘Pennies & Change’ are new tracks that have never been previewed before.

A release for Ep 2 is planned for early next year followed by EP 3 a few months later.

Many thanks to all of you that have written in. I have attempted to reply to everyone, but, in case I have missed anyone, I apologise.

We hope you enjoy the tracks. Please let us know what you think in the comments section.

Thank you to everyone for your support!

A long time supporter, who goes by the pseudonym “Justin Credible”, has kindly created a remix/re-edit of the demo version of “Peace Vibration” (which can be found in the audio section under “Meccano Mind Extras”). You can listen to it here, on YouTube or 2bitpie. Don’t forget to check out his other content, which includes his own work and a number of FLUKE (my old band) tracks/remixes/live, etc.

Enjoy!

19 Meccano Mind Extras

We have added a new album category to the audio section, entitled “Meccano Mind Extras”. This contains a few tracks that were never used on “Meccano Mind”.

The album version of “Little Love” was actually the original demo that myself (Mike Tournier), Jan Burton and co-producer Tim Gordine created. Despite having done a mix with legendary producer/engineer Dave Bascombe and another, with the fantastic Michael Fayne as engineer, the record company were insistent on using the demo. The mix in the extras album is the one created with Michael Fayne. I think it sounds more ‘hi-fi’. See what you think.

“Peace Vibration” (sometimes known as “Sandman”) was, again, created with the help on Tim Gordine. We never managed to get a good mix of the demo, but I managed to pull off a couple of remixes, which are quite entertaining. The track never made it on to the album.

“Sensation” is a bit of an oddity! Our manager rediscovered this strange little track quite recently. It didn’t make it on to the album, but we all like it for it’s quirky nature. You might recognize the opening lyrics from “Fever”. We always like to ‘recycle’ where possible!

We will be adding to this album as and when we come across interesting material. It’s amazing how many things get left behind on an album project!

Enjoy!

After some extensive YouTube surfing, we have put together a clip featuring various people playing “Pride” by Syntax from the album Meccano Mind. Learning to play a song is the highest compliment you can give to a band. Thanks to you all!

You can listen to the original version on our website by clicking on AUDIO, then selecting “Meccano Mind”.

“Pride” was used many times on TV in such programs as “Nip Tuck”, “Bones” and the French series “Alice Nevers, Le Juge est une Femme”.

Enjoy!

19 Our New Website

This is the opening blog for SYNTAX on our new website, which will hopefully keep you informed on the activities of myself (Mike Tournier) and Jan Burton.

It has been quite a few years since the release of our first album “Meccano Mind” in 2004. To be honest, there was never really an intention of releasing another one, until we realized, some years later, that it had gradually grown in popularity and people were asking for more. After getting together periodically, Jan and I started writing new material over the last few years, in between other projects, and generated quite a lot of music. Here on the site you will be able to check out new material, listen to old stuff and even hear work in progress. Also, there was quite a bit of material generated for “Meccano Mind” that was never released. We will be posting some of this as well. We feel that people only really get half the story when they buy a finished album, so this is an opportunity to fill in the other 50%.

Please check back regularly (or subscribe) to see the story unfold!
